METALLART celebrates its 100th anniversary

The renowned METALLART Treppen GmbH celebrates its 100th anniversary and looks back on an eventful past and an exciting future.

A success story

You may have noticed that the logo on our website has changed. From now on, the adaptation of our corporate design will accompany us throughout the year, as METALLART Treppen GmbH celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022. On the occasion of our anniversary, we look back on a successful past in which METALLART Treppen GmbH has established itself as a major player in national and international staircase construction.

The biggest milestones

1922
The first records of the Schmid blacksmith's workshop in Salach date back to this year. However, the business has been family-owned since around 1900. The head of the company is Josef Schmid Sr, the grandfather of long-time managing director Johannes Schmid.

1953
The blacksmith's workshop is handed over to his son Georg Schmid, who continues to run it on his own.

In the 70s, the blacksmith's workshop became the Schmid locksmith's shop. Georg Schmid also runs a hardware retail business on the side.

1985
In this year, Johannes Schmid takes over the business and continues to run it as Schlosserei Schmid.

1990
The sole proprietorship of Schlosserei Schmid becomes Metallbau Schmid GmbH.

1995
The company Metallbau Schmid GmbH expands. Staircase construction is further expanded and a new production hall is built.
In addition to Metallbau Schmid GmbH, METALLART Treppen Metallbau Schmid GmbH is founded.

2009
The two companies merge to form METALLART Metallbau Schmid GmbH.

2016
METALLART wins the nationwide and cross-industry GlobalConnect award in the "Hidden Champion" category and the Metal Construction Award in the "Stairs and Railings" category.

2017
The Federal Prize for Outstanding Innovative Achievement goes to METALLART
To expand its market presence in Switzerland, METALLART founds the public limited company METALLART Treppen AG in Aarau. Julian Schweizer is hired as a sales representative and has been Delegate and Vice President of the Board of Directors since 2021.

2017/2018
The company is renamed METALLART Treppen GmbH.

2018/2019
METALLART creates the infrastructural conditions for further growth at the main site in Salach. A separate office building now houses all administrative and technical office staff, and an additional plant for the paint shop, work preparation and shipping is being created in the neighboring town of Süßen.

2021
Jürgen Bauer takes over the management of the international staircase construction company. From administration to the technical office and production to assembly, METALLART Treppen GmbH now employs a total of 100 people.

The 100th anniversary means something very special for METALLART. In addition to preserving what has been achieved so far, the year 2022 is also a signal to move into the future. We will continue to successfully shape this future together with architectural and planning offices, metalworking companies, general contractors and our construction customers. The past years are both an obligation and an incentive, especially in these challenging times, to continue the proven METALLART quality through commitment and know-how, to continue to impress with spectacular staircase systems and to offer a comprehensive service.
