Roche Tower in Basel
The complex steel and glass staircase and railing ensemble realized by METALLART for the new Hoffmann - La Roche company headquarters in Basel has won the Stairs and Railings category and was awarded the German Metal Construction Award 2022.
On November 4, the jury announced this year's winners in a total of six categories at the evening event of the Metal Congress in Kaufering. The national competition, which the Salach-based staircase construction company already won in 2016, has been organized by the trade magazine M&T Metallhandwerk & Technik for 10 years now and awards prizes for outstanding projects from the metal industry.
Impressive spiral steel staircases and all-glass railings
The winning project in the new office tower of F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG at its headquarters in Basel spans 45 of the 50 floors of Switzerland's tallest building at 205 meters. The system consists of 16 highly complex spiral stairs in six different designs, which differ in terms of storey height, flight width, number of risers and stair pitch. Parapet-high all-glass railings on both sides
all-glass railings on both sides, which are continued with transparent gallery railings at the rounded ceiling openings and complemented by elegantly rounded wooden handrails with a filigree look. Despite the immense amount of steel used, the centrally positioned stairs blend gracefully and dynamically into the light-flooded interior. We are really proud of the recognition of our achievements and would like to pass on our thanks to our dedicated METALLART team, with whom we were able to execute this project so masterfully.
