Folded stairs in the LAMAISON Hotel

2015, Saarlouis

The historic villa of the Higher Administrative Court in Saarlouis has been given a new look. Since September 2015, it has been home to the 4-star superior hotel LAMAISON. The interior design, which is characterized by an elegant ambience, also includes the extremely stylish steel staircase in an extravagant design. The evenly rounded, 6-flight floor plan with a diameter of approx. 4050 mm alone sets the steel staircase impressively in scene.

Steel staircase with elegant wooden flooring

The balustrade painted in modern white and the elegant wooden covering of the folding steps create a harmonious contrast that successfully complements the overall interior design concept. In the bright, light-flooded foyer, the steel staircase also fascinates with its aesthetically curved steel soffit lining made of smooth sheet steel, which makes the staircase look almost like a sculpture. In addition to the purely visual effect, this also improves the vibration behavior of the steel staircase, which is designed to be self-supporting between the landings.

Project details

The focus of the purist design is undoubtedly also the steel balustrade railings. The sectional recesses in the upper area of the balustrade stringers visually create an upper band that is only connected to the lower balustrade railings at the statically required standard distance. These stringer connections between the recesses were provided with ornaments in the form of a diamond frame for additional design purposes. Cutting out the recesses using a laser cutting process enabled a clean and visually sharp-edged edge to the cut-outs. A wooden handrail in the form of a profile made of European oak was installed along the inner steel balustrade railings to match the step covering.

As a contrast to the steel balustrade railings of the staircase, all-glass railings made of white glass were used to protect the edges of the ceilings on the individual floors from falling. The transitions of the outer steel balustrade are particularly impressive - especially the parts of the balustrade stringers set off above the recesses at the top, which continue as handrails for the all-glass railings.

We have the "creators" at NICOLAY DESIGN GmbH to thank for the architectural masterpiece of this staircase, designed down to the smallest detail.
